The focal point of this photo is the girls plait it is centeral and stands out again the green dress and plain background. The plait is straight down the girls back and the scissors are positioned below and are darker than the rest of the photo so that the eye is not drawn there staright away. Your eye is drawn down the straight plait to the sinister sissors below.
A good choice of photograph Emily, however your link is a poor choice of 'How To'. You could have analysed the image more - your choice of adjective 'sinister' regards the scissors is excellent.
